How do you feel?

Do you sometimes get that odd sense, that gut instinct, that something isn’t quite right?

I wonder if I can help?

Talk, eat, feel better…

The latest scientific research is showing more and more the link between our gut and our brain.  The more I study and work with all sorts of people, the more I understand how nurturing the gut biome is key to maintaining a healthy mind and body.  When you are feeling your best you sleep well, have lots of energy, are free from pain and can manage your stress.

Some specific issues where I can help: fatigue and low energy, weight and blood sugar issues, (for information on my 2 week CGM programme) on hormonal issues including menopause, PCOS and thyroid, digestive problems such as constipation and IBS, mental health issues including mood, stress and anxiety, skin and hair problems including acne, eczema and hair loss. I also provide specific support to people with Parkinson's Disease.

Six guiding principles

I am a health detective - I like to find out what’s going on behind the scenes in your body, look at all the clues, and put together a picture of the total you. Then make a plan for your wellbeing from the inside out.

1. Talk & listen

I’m interested in how I can help you. Together, we take time to discover your personal situation - I listen to you, ask questions, connect all the parts of your life and medical history. Our initial consultation lasts from 1 1/2 - 2 hours - a two way process

2. Eat - an individual programme

I work with you to tailor-make a programme which fits with your lifestyle and takes into account your likes and dislikes, gives suggestions about diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and supplements if appropriate

3. Feel better - take action

You take the plan away, put it into practice and start to achieve the results you want. We’ll make sure it fits with your life, other people you need to think about, your activities and abilities

4. Tests - good to know

To get a complete picture it’s good to know what tests you’ve had and to look at the results - I can recommend functional laboratory tests and offer blood sugar monitoring

5. Review - how’s it going

Most importantly it’s good to check back - take a physical and emotional audit of how it’s going - we will schedule follow up sessions at your convenience and make adjustments if needed

6. Working together

I never suggest people stop taking any prescribed medications and work alongside conventional medicine -  with your GP, consultant and other health professionals

Testimonials

A few words from some of the people I’ve worked with:

“Emma taught me a new way to look at the foods that I was consuming and encouraged me to change my diet in a way that was right for me and worked for me. She advised me to take different types of supplements. And best of all it worked! I am still eczema free nearly 5 years later. I am still very aware of Emma's suggestions and still watch how much processed food I eat and I still take some supplements. I would recommend Emma as a competent professional with really caring interpersonal skills. "

“ I wasn't even sure if the problem I was suffering from a year ago was the menopause (my GP had just confirmed me as post menopausal). All I knew was that I was having trouble sleeping, often feeling grumpy and irritable with my family, my mind felt cloudy and about half as sharp as I felt it needed to be to cope with a demanding profession, and my moods were volatile: one bad incident could plunge me into the depths of despair.I have to say, I am a distinctly more cheerful, energised and saner woman than I was before I consulted Emma. I noticed an improvement in mental clarity within a couple of months, which is even more crucial - to my career as well as my self-esteem.”

“Emma helped me to solve a problem that my doctor said was impossible to fix”

- ML, Female 18

“Emma is exceptionally knowledgeable about her subject!  That means I can rely on her advice safe in the knowledge that her grasp of the science means there's no need to spend time double checking the advice. “

“Emma has really helped me - finally - sort out my weight problem. I knew everything that I SHOULD do (e.g. eat less, less carbs, don't eat late at night) but she finally helped me put it all together and lose some weight permanently.

Her trick was to kit me out with a simple blood sugar monitor so I could immediately see what any form of eating was doing to my body. Then she set me a few basic "experiments" to run so I could understand how my body would re-act to any eating pattern. Rather wonderfully, she monitored me remotely and talked me through what was happening.

Net result.  I now know what certain eating patterns do to my body in vivid detail.  And this has made it possible to - finally - adopt good habits and slowly lose weight.

The whole thing was a good blend of real time science and human support. I'd recommend it to anyone who already knows what they should do, but somehow never quite does...“
